Eco Art in Montreal

Posted in Entertainment on December 3, 2011 by tenaciousrosalie

One of the things I love most about Montreal is that it has a thriving art community. Here, it’s common practice to see outdoor art exhibits, murals and poetry written on the sidewalks in the summertime. Recently I was shopping downtown at the huge Eaton Center when I came across an art exhibit made entirely of recycled bottles, toilet paper rolls and cans. All combined and manipulated, the artist created a nature scene in the middle of the mall, complete with pond, frogs, flowers and fireflys. What was so cool about this particular scene was that from afar, you could hardly tell  it was made from recycled goods. I enjoyed the display so much I just had to take a few snap shots! So, the next time you’re feeling creative, why not try to create something pretty with items we would usually toss in the trash or recycling bin.

I recently decided to move my desk at work so that I could fully take advantage of the amazing view of Montreal from the 14th floor. I hope you like it just as much as I do!

The Winning Combination!

After years of recreation and leadership training in college and uni, I consider myself skilled when it comes to getting kids involved in different leisure programs… But, there are just some things that can’t be taught in the classroom…For instance… how to manage a completely out of control hoard of sugared up, attention seeking, 10-year-old monsters without having to slip small doses of Ritalin into their juice boxes.  Had I not seen it with my own two eyes last week I would have never believed such a task to be possible, but I was wrong!

When in Quebec…Do as the Quebecers Do!

Posted in Entertainment, Humour with tags , , , on October 22, 2011 by tenaciousrosalie

Often referred to as the “smoking and boozing capital of Canada,” Quebec is a very accepting province. Here,  it’s not frowned upon to drink beer with breakfast or for grandmere to ask the young ones to “roll her a cigarette.” Anything pretty much goes…Especially in Montreal. With four universities and four colleges within this modest sized city, it’s no surprise that most Quebecer’s like to live on the wild side. That’s why I say when in Quebec, do as the Quebecers do! Short of smoking an entire pack of cigarettes in a few hours while drinking a large can of 8.1% Labatte Blue, my tips will help you hook up with the good people of this province!.

I May Not Have A Degree in Computer Science, But I Know how to Connect to the Internet.

Many of you know that I am “bad” when it comes to electronics, and I will admit that all the criticisms I get from friends are well deserved at times. But, a recent train ride to Toronto has proved that it doesn’t take a genius to connect to the internet. Right?

I boarded my train on a Thursday afternoon and wasn’t at all surprised to see a train full of students making their way home for the weekend. It’s always easy to tell the students apart from everyone else…They’re usually the ones who look tired (probably from the festivities from the night before) and of course they have the ability to make themselves right at home anywhere they go. Case in point I saw feet and legs sprawled out onto other seats and aisles, ipods and earphones all abuzz with loud music…Not to mention the lovely background noise of cell phone conversations that filled the air for all to enjoy! And who wouldn’t enjoy hearing about how drunk Michey was last night or how bad your grade was on that quiz! But it’s all in good fun because I remember having the same conversations back in the day. But that’s besides the point.
